Vihara Avalokiteswara, also known as Tien Kok Sie Temple, is a place of worship. This building is more than 300 years old and still functions well today.
The Chinese architectural style is reflected in the shape of the roof and detailed architectural elements such as carved ornaments on the doors and windows, as well as the building’s texture and colors. This temple serves as evidence of Chinese cultural acculturation in the city of Surakarta, which occurred through the spread of religion and trade.
The building is located south of Pasar Gede (Gede Market). Meanwhile, to the east of Pasar Gede lies Kampung Balong, which was formerly known as the Chinatown area.
